THE LITTLE PRINCE – THE STORY
Our story begins with a pilot. He remembers when once he crash-landed in the Sahara Desert. It was there that he encountered a most extraordinary small person…the Little Prince.
The Little Prince had lived on a tiny planet, no larger than a house. He owned 3 volcanoes (2 active and 1 extinct), and a rose. His rose was unlike any other flower in the galaxy, of great beauty and extreme pride. It was this pride that ruined the serenity of the Little Prince’s world and started him on an interplanetary journey. He wanted to learn from others how he could understand his rose better, for he believed he must be at fault for his flower’s pride. He took advantage of some migrating birds to help him fly through the stars. He visited many planets and met many people: An Observer, who measured everything, a Businessman who collected stars and an Empress who wanted to rule and control everyone. However, the Little Prince did not learn anything from them (except that sometimes adults do the strangest things). Then he came to Earth. On Earth he met a snake in the desert, visited a city where everyone was coming and going very fast (except a small girl who took time to enjoy her rag doll). Then he met a fox that became his only friend. They played; they laughed. The Little Prince tamed the fox and learned from him that it is the time spent on someone else that makes them so important. The Little Prince realized this was true for his rose. Now he longed to go home. But he could not leave for the birds that brought him had left long ago, and he could not be sure if they would return. However, the snake he had befriended offered him another way home.
The Little Prince did return to his rose and the pilot fixed his plane and returned to his home. He had been changed forever by the Little Prince’s stories. The pilot never spoke to anyone of the Little Prince, yet he thought about him almost every day. And when he looked up at the sky at night, then he was happiest because he could hear the Little Prince’s laughter in the stars.
